CREDITS: TOTAL HOURS, LIMITS, TRANSFER

Based on Postgraduate Studies Rules;


Total Credit Hours for Graduation

Students must pass the total credit hours as prescribed by the programme structure approved by the Senate:


(a) Postgraduate Diploma: minimum 30 credit hours

(b) Master’s Degree: minimum 40 credit hours

(c) Doctoral Degree: minimum 80 credit hours


Credit Hour Limits Per Semester

Students may apply to register for the number of credit hours per semester as outlined below:


The credit hour limit does not include Dissertation, Research Project, Practicum, Internship or Teaching Practice.


Credit Transfer


1. Credit Transfer Application:

(a) For students transferring to the University:

  1. The courses for which credit transfer is requested must have been taken at the equivalent degree level and programme; and
  2. The student must have obtained at least a Grade B in the courses taken at the degree level and in the equivalent programme only.


(b) For students changing programmes within the University, a minimum grade of B must be obtained in the relevant courses.


(c) Students participating in outbound mobility programmes may apply to transfer credits obtained for equivalent courses to those required in the University.


2. Courses eligible for credit transfer must be from programmes accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and listed in the Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR).


3. Applications must be submitted within the first four (4) weeks of the first semester of study at the University.


4. The content of the previously completed course must be at least 80% equivalent to the course for which credit transfer is being requested at the University.


5. The number of credits eligible for transfer must not exceed one-third (1/3) of the total credit hours of the programme pursued at the University.


6. Notwithstanding Sub-regulation (5), the total credit transfer hours approved for students changing programmes within the University is not limited, but remains subject to the credit transfer conditions in Sub-regulation (1.(b)).


7. A processing fee of RM300 per course shall be charged for each credit transfer application.
